This book is set in Britain at the time of the Romans. It is suspenseful, exciting and pulls your mind into a story from the long past. It is very well constructed and shows what life was like then.

Beric is the sole survivor of a shipwreck. He is found by a clan of Britons and adopted by one of the families despite the warnings from the town's druid - who had been dismissed as crazy a long time ago - that bad things would happen if they took him in  .

Beric grows up learning the ways of the clan and sharing their beliefs. He feels at home there. One year, hard-times spring on the clan and the clan begins to believe that maybe they should have paid heed to the old druid's warning and that Beric is the cause for the clan's hardship. Beric cannot change their feelings and they cast him out of the clan. Beric travels to Rome to join the Eagles (their name for the Roman army). However, things are not as easy as they first seem and Beric must face many hardships... What will Beric do? Where will he go? But most importantly, who will he trust?

This excellent book is very well written and proves to be an exciting read. It is very interesting to find out how Beric tackles the problems and obstacles that get in his path so take my advice and read the book!
