This is one of my favourite Redwall books. It is full of action and excitement. There are less groups of people than normal with fewer main main characters. This means that the main characters are more well developed and you get to learn more about them and I think that means you feel more involved with them.

Tammo is a young hare who is very eagre to get into the long patrol - a large army of hares that defend the lands around Salamandastron, the great badger Lord's mountain. However, Tammo is not yet old enough nor experienced enough to join the Long Patrol and this upsets him and frustrates him. He runs away from Camp Tussock, aided by his mother, and he journeys, looking for adventure.

He meets up with a party of hares from the Long Patrol who tell him that they are currently at war with an evil band of vicious villianous rats called the Rapscillions. The rats are planning  to lay seige to Redwall Abbey and steal their wealth. Can the Long Patrol come to their rescue? Read it and find out.

I liked the character Tammo very much. He is young and playful and mischievious yet he longs to be noble and important. He is brave and kind to others and he makes me laugh. Brian Jaques put a lot of detail into his character - more than he usually does - and I liked that very much.

This is a great book - one of the best in the Redwall series.
