is an exciting tale of a family of foxes who try to steal from Redwall Abbey. However,
these are not ordinary foxes, they have special markings which help to camouflage them, so
things could be hard for the Redwallers .... When I read this book, I found that I was completely taken in with the excitement. Brain Jaques, once again, really gave character to his creations. The Marlfoxes make excellent villains. They are a sly race of cunning animals who are thirst for power and wealth and to get this, they are even willing to kill their own families. It makes them ruthless and unpredictable and that in turn makes the story exciting. It is full of twists and surprises that keep you reading and reading. The different animal races like hares and shrews have their usual characteristics that follow through all the other Redwall books. I like that because it makes it fun and it is similar to real life where different races have their own languages. Some people might find that it makes the books too similar to each other but I guess that is always the case with a large series of books. If you are a Redwall fan, then you must certainly read this excellent novel! September 2000 |
