The story 'Hatchet' is about a boy called Brian Robeson whose parents have had a divorce. He is in a small bushplane, flying over the Canadian wilderness on the way to see his father. Suddenly the pilot has a heart attack and dies. Brian is forced to crash-land in a lake. He has to learn to live the tough way in order to survive. All he has left  with him is a hatchet. Will Brian ever be rescued, can he survive alone?

I thought that Hatchet was one of the best books that I have read! It has lots of descriptions in it and the book seems to take you inside it and make you a character in the story. It teaches you things and I began thinking what I would do if I ever encountered the situations that Brian was in.

I liked Brian because I thought he was very resourceful and coped well with being alone. He showed tremendous bravery and determination. I thought that he was very clever and had a lot of luck in the story. Gary Paulson made me care about Brian.

Brian's hatchet was the most important tool that he had in the wilderness and it was also his only memory from home; 'Hatchet' was an excellent title for this book.

One of the many exciting parts was when Brian was cleaning his hands at the lake. A moose charged him 3 times before it went away and Brian's chest was badly injured. Just when he thought things were going well, he ended up half drowned, nursing broken ribs!!!

There are so many adventures in this exciting book that you will not want to put it down. I think that Hatchet is an excellent adventure book and I would recommend it for 7+ children.
