.
I thought this book was very beautiful;. It is written in the form of a diary, the diary of an old lady telling her great nephew what happened to her when she was a child. She lived on a tiny island in the Scilly Islands and the diary tells all about island life in those times. It also tells all about her emotions and feelings.

It is beautifully written and very well illustrated with excellent black and white pencil drawings. It has a lot of atmosphere and you end up caring about the girl and her family.

It is a short book and it is quite easy to read so I think a lot of people would enjoy it even quite young ones. I have read "The Dancing Bear" by the same author and that was very beautiful too.

My favourite part was when she found "something" on the beach. It will spoil it if I tell you what she found but I would have like to have been her then and to find what she found.
