Mossflower is the second book in the Redwall series (though I do not think it was the second one written).

At the end of  Martin the Warrior, Martin left his friends and went off alone. This book sees Martin wandering alone in Mossflower woods. Unknown to him, Mossflower is ruled by a wicked band of creatures who live in the fortress of Koitir.

Martin is captured and brought before the dying wildcat leader Verduga Green Eyes, his son Gingivere and his evil daughter Tsarmina.

How will Martin get free? Will the woodland creatures of Mossflower end up as slaves to Kotir? And what or who is Salamandastron?

This was another exciting book from Brian Jaques. His woodland creatures seem so life like that you would not be surprised to meet one in your local park. In fact I would love to meet one and go home with it and try out some of the wonderful food that his characters are always eating.

I love the dialogue, like when Skipper the otter is speaking to Tsarmina and says, "Go and chase your mangy tail PUSSYCAT!!"

The pictures were exellent as usual.
