I got this book in New Zealand! We had to stop there on our way to Australia and I had finished the book I was reading on the plane so we got this one for me. Mum and Dad already had their own copies so now I think we have 3 or 4 in the house!

This is a fantasy fiction book. Fiction means it is not true and fantasy means that it is imaginary and has things in it that cannot  be true like elves and dwarfs. It is a classic book too which means that it is a very good one that lots of people like and recommend.

In this book Tolkien invented a race of people called Hobbits who are little like dwarves but these are different and they have hairy feet. You need to read the book if you want to learn what they are like. The main character is a hobbit called Bilbo Baggins who has had a quiet life like most hobbits until his friend, the wizard Gandalf who is a human, sends him off on a great adventure.

Bilbo meets dwarves, elves, goblins, the men of the lake, giant spiders and a dragon! Bilbo finds an important object which is also a very powerful object and an evil creature is searching for it. The story tells of Bilbo's many adventures

I liked this book a LOT. I like the way Tolkien tells you so much about each place and character and the story is very exciting. I like fantasy adventures. It was scarey in places too. I would recommend it to good readers but you do need to be a good reader because a lot of the names and things are made up and difficult to work out. It was different from a lot of the books I have read because there were so many characters in it! My brain had trouble storing them all in!!

I like the cover too - nice dragon! But I wish I could see all of him properly.
