| This is a book about a 10 year old girl called Andrea but she is called
Andy by her friends. Her mum and Dad have had a divorce and now her Mum is married to
someone that Andy does not like who has a daughter of his own from his first marriage.
His daughter Kate is spoilt and she calls Andy "Andy Pandy" and is
spiteful to her when the adults are not around. Andy gets blamed for everything. Andy's Dad is married to a new lady too and she has little
twins, a boy and a girl and she is pregnant too and the new baby will be Andy's half
brother or half sister.
It is a little complicated. Andy does not want to
lose her Mum or her Dad so she lives part of the time in each house and she feels like she
does not belong in either one and she feels like she is living out of a suitcase like you
have to when you are on holiday. Her only real friend is a toy Sylvavian Animal - a little
rabbit called Radish.
It is a sad book because she is unhappy and cannot
have what she wants most. I do not like divorce and I would not like to be in her place. I
wish parents would think harder before they decide to get married in the first place and
have children because it is very upsetting for the children if they change their minds!
Some bits are funny too. Jaqueline Wilson always
writes in a funny way and her arguments and quarrels have funny insults in them.
I did enjoy the book but I do not know why really
because it is sad. My favourite parts were when she was playing with Radish in the
pretend home she made for her.
I would recommend this book to older children -
maybe 8 or more because littler ones might find it very upsetting and also some of the
insults are a bit rude. If your parents are divorced I guess it might be upsetting
but then again maybe it would have some good ideas on how to get along for you or maybe it
would make you feel better. I don't know.
