| This is a hilarious book about a girl called Charlie (her real name is
Charlotte but don't ever call her that!) who lives in a flat with her mum who she calls
Jo. Charlie is clever and sometimes cheeky at school and when she has to do a project
about Victorians she decides to do a diary as if it is written by a young, poor, Victorian
girl called Lottie. It is a very funny book and Charlie says and does some very funny things but it is sad too. It is sad for her when her Mum finds a new boyfriend and their life changes and it is sad that they have so little money and have to worry all the time. It is ok in the end though and the bits about the Victorian project are interesting. I think the way she did the project was very good. There is some funny stuff about boyfriends and girlfriends too - Charlie hates boyfriends but her friends do not. I enjoyed this book very much. It was my first book by Jacqueline Wilson and I went and got some more straight away. I like the illustrations too - Nick Sharrat is very good and does some great cartoon type drawings.
