My Grandma in Australia sent me this book. It is written by an Australian and the story is set in Australia. It is a very beautiful book with lots of description that makes it easy to picture the scenery he is describing.

The book tells you about a boy called Abel Jackson and his Mum. His dad was killed by a shark when Abel was small. Now Abel and his Mum live alone on the coast of Australia in a little shack, living off the food they can grow or catch in the sea. they are very happy. The story tells us about a big blue groper they meet in the ocean. They call him Blueback. Then it goes on to tell us about Abel's life and his friendship with the fish.

I loved this book. It was very beautiful and calming. It gave me beautiful thoughts and made me wish that I could swim with the fish in the ocean, in places I could almost think I was there with them. It was sad when the storm came and uncovered all the old whalebones from whaling days. I am glad they do not whale there any more. I wish no-one would kill Whales!

The book is written as if it is a true story but Mum says it probably is not. It was very easy to read and I would recommend it to even small children who could have an adult read it to them because it is very beautiful.
