For those of you who'd like to capture the atmosphere of Wales during the reign of the mines and iron works, you cannot do better than read Alexander Cordell's books. He was a wonderful author who sadly died in 1997 and, though he was not Welsh by birth, he had the Hwyl in his heart. A thoroughly good read.
Titles include - The Rape of the Fair Country - Song of the Earth - The Hosts of Rebecca -This Proud and Savage Land - The Fire People - Land of my Fathers - This Sweet and Bitter Earth and Tales from Tiger Bay.
